It’s awards season at the European Handball Federation. The EHF Excellence Award is here, and Petra Simon and Martim Costa were awarded young players of the season.
On December 14, the EHF Excellence Awards gala takes place in Vienna, Austria (the day between the semi-finals and final of the Women’s Euro 2024). Last year, Pauletta Foppa from France and Domen Makuc from Slovenia took home the award. This year, it’s Hungary’s Petra Simon and Portugal’s Martim Costa.
Simon, 19, made her EHF Champions League debut the previous season and scored 39 goals in her first-ever Champions League campaign. FTC won the Hungarian championship with Simon as a key member of the team.
She also helped Hungary win the Women’s 19 EHF Euro 2023 and was named MVP during that tournament. Simon also had an important role for the Women’s national team during the World Championship and the Olympics.
Martim Costa won joint top scorer with Mathias Gidsel during the Men’s EHF Euro 2024 in Germany after scoring 54 goals over seven matches. He was named left back in the All-Star Team during the same championship.
And for his club side Sporting CP, he has been dominant last season and this season.
