The European Championship 2024 is getting closer and in a series of articles Ola Selby, reporter at GoHandball, picks his 5 best players at each position. First out: The goalkeepers.
Here are the players:
Niklas Landin, Denmark
If we are talking full season then Niklas Landin is no longer the greatest goalkeeper in the world. At least it’s not obvious anymore. But if Denmark makes their way to the finals then everyone knows that Landin will be at his best in that game. And for that reason, Landin is a given at this list.
Gonzalo Perez de Vargas, Spain
The Spaniard will replace Niklas Landin in THW Kiel next season, even if it’s a year late. And then Kiel will have found a worthy replacement for one of the best goalkeepers in history when they replace him with another top keeper. Perez de Vargas is just that, one of the best at his position.
Emil Nielsen, Denmark
There are arguments to be made that Niklas Landin is no longer the best goalkeeper in the world. He may not be the best goalkeeper in Denmark any longer. Considering what Emil Nielsen has done this season in Barcelona in the Champions League he may very well be Denmark’s number one.
Andreas Wolff, Germany
The big bad Wolff has had a tough season so far with injuries and has only taken part in four of Kielce’s games in the Champions League. But when he has played the big German has been incredible. And during the Euros, Wolff will be crazy important for Germany. If Germany are to surprise everyone and bring home a medal Wolff needs to perform at his best.
Charles Bolzinger, France
The least known player on this list. An underrated player who has performed at a high level for Montpellier all season long. Bolzinger should be France’s number one during the Euros and then more people will learn just how talented he is.
