Blockbuster move: Alex Dujshebaev to Join VfL Gummersbach

VfL Gummersbach have pulled off a major coup on the transfer market, securing the signature of Alex Dujshebaev. The Spanish international will join the Bundesliga side from the 2026/27 season and has signed a contract running for at least three years, according to a press release.

The 33-year-old arrives after a highly successful spell with Polish giants Kielce, where he has spent the past nine seasons. During that time, Dujshebaev established himself as one of the best right backs in the world. He has twice reached the EHF Champions League final with Kielce and previously lifted the Champions League trophy in 2017 with RK Vardar Skopje. On the international stage, he has been a key figure for Spain for more than a decade, winning, among other titles, two European Championships.

VfL Gummersbach managing director Christoph Schindler expressed great satisfaction with the signing:

“We are incredibly happy and proud to have convinced Alex to join VfL Gummersbach. His sporting qualities speak for themselves, but beyond that, he brings outstanding leadership and experience as captain of both Kielce and the Spanish national team. He will be a crucial pillar for our long-term direction and a role model for our younger players. This transfer also sends a clear message about where we want to go as a club.”

Head coach Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson highlighted the broader significance of the move:

“This is a huge signing not only for VfL Gummersbach, but for our fans and the entire region. We had excellent conversations with Alex, and we are delighted that he believes in our project and is ready to take the step to the Bundesliga. We expect him to make our game faster, sharper, and even more effective.”

Dujshebaev himself is equally enthusiastic about the next chapter of his career.

“I am very proud to join a club with such a rich history and to be part of an ambitious project in the Bundesliga, which for me is the strongest league in the world,” he said. “The talks with Gudjon and Christoph Schindler played a decisive role in my decision. I am ready to give everything for this club so that we can achieve our goals together and continue to grow.”
