Report: Magnus Andersson set to become Norway’s new head coach

Norway appear to have found their next men’s national team coach – and it looks set to be an experienced Swedish handball figure.

According to Norwegian broadcaster TV2, Magnus Andersson has been selected as the successor to Jonas Wille and is expected to be presented as Norway’s new head coach in the coming days. Multiple Norwegian media outlets have since reported the same information.

The development comes just weeks after TV2 reported that four candidates remained in the running for the position: Magnus Andersson, Stefan Madsen, Kristian Kjelling and Børge Lund. GoHandball previously reported on that shortlist as Norway continued its search for a new leader ahead of the next Olympic cycle.

According to the latest reports, both Kjelling and Lund have now been informed that they will not get the job, while PSG coach Stefan Madsen has also missed out on the position.

The appointment of Magnus Andersson would mark a significant move for Norway, who have struggled to replicate the success achieved under former coach Christian Berge. Despite boasting stars such as Sander Sagosen and Tobias Grøndahl, Norway have failed to reach a major final in recent years and decided earlier this year not to extend Wille’s contract beyond 2026.

TV2 has also reported that Danish coach Henrik Kronborg, currently an assistant with Denmark’s national team and Aalborg Håndbold, is a leading candidate to join Andersson’s staff as assistant coach.

An official announcement from the Norwegian Handball Federation is expected soon.
