In a dramatic final in the IHF Club World Championship between Veszprem and Magdeburg, the Hungarians took home the gold, winning 34–33 after extra time.
Magdeburg had won the tournament for three straight years, but Veszprem dramatically ended the German’s domination.
Veszprem was in front all game long, but like they often do, Magdeburg came back strong at the end of the second half and got the game into extra time.
It looked like Veszprem had the game in the bag, but Magdeburg did not let the Hungarians score for the final three minutes of regular time and got the game to extra time.
In the end, it was saves by Rodrigo Corrales and goals by French duo Ludovic Fabregas and Nedim Remili that sealed the deal for Veszprem, winning 34–33.
