Bobinac withdraws from EHF race – targets IHF presidency

As part of the election process for the EHF Executive Committee, Franjo Bobinac (Slovenia) announced his withdrawal after four years on the body, confirming instead that he will run for IHF President at the congress in Cairo this December.

“I believe that we should take the lead in truly developing handball into a global sport. Handball deserves much more and a stronger voice within the Olympic movement. We are here to confirm and secure the Olympic status of handball,” Bobinac stated.

Bobinac has served as President of the Slovenian Olympic Committee since December 2022 and, since February 2025, as a member of the Executive Committee of the European Olympic Committees.

Meanwhile, Andreas Michelmann, President of the German Handball Federation (DHB), informed the EHF Congress of the nomination of Gerd Butzeck as DHB’s candidate for the IHF presidency.
