The Norwegian league is approaching the start of the season, and with the help of Bent Svele, longtime expert on Norway’s TV 2, we take a closer look at the women’s league. Who will win the league? Which player will stand out?
Bent Svele have worked as a handball expert for TV 2 since 2000. He comments on the Norwegian league, the national teams, and the Champions League/European League. He also cover breaking news relating to Norwegian handball.
Which team will win the league this season and why?
– Storhamar. They have a solid and deep squad built to win titles in Norway and to be the Norwegian Champions League team. They have taken over the throne after Vipers. Although there have been some changes in the squad, much of last year’s core remains, and on paper – and in practice – they should be the best team.
Which player will stand out?
– Anniken Obaidli, Storhamar. She is the playmaker for the best team and was named Player of the Year in the league last season. She will dominate the league this year.
Which player will have his or her big breakthrough?
– Henriette Espetvedt Eggen, Tertnes. She had something of a breakthrough last season but struggled with inconsistency due to injuries. If she manages a full, injury-free season and performs at the level she showed last year, it will be a huge boost for Tertnes. If she gets into that rhythm, she could even be an outsider for a national team spot at the championship in December.
Which player, team or event will be the most disappointing?
– It would be a disappointment if Storhamar doesn’t make it to the Champions League knockout stage.
What are you looking forward to the most?
– I am looking forward to tough and even matchups with Norwegian teams in Europe. There will also be fierce battles at the top in both the men’s and women’s leagues and a close race for the medals.
