Germany have continued their remarkable run of success in youth handball, winning the inaugural IHF Women’s Under-16 World Championship in Morocco with a 37–32 victory over Hungary in the final.
Germany finished the tournament with a perfect record, winning all five matches to claim the first-ever world title at this age category. However, Hungary pushed the European champions before Germany pulled clear in the second half.
The teams were separated by just two goals at half-time, with Germany leading 17–15. A decisive 4–1 run early in the second half gave the German side the momentum they needed, as their defensive intensity disrupted Hungary’s attacking play.
Romy Sieber delivered her best performance of the tournament, scoring eight goals and providing six assists to spearhead Germany’s attack. Hungary’s Hanna Molnár scored nine times, but her efforts were not enough to prevent defeat.
The triumph completes a double for Germany, who also defeated Hungary in the final of the W16 EHF European Open in July, winning 29–18. The latest victory further underlines Germany’s strength in youth handball.
Germany are now reigning champions in the IHF Women’s Junior World Championship, the IHF Men’s Youth World Championship, the IHF Men’s Under-17 World Championship and the IHF Women’s Under-16 World Championship.
