Hosts march on to the semifinals

Backed by a roaring home crowd, the Netherlands secured a spot in the World Championship semifinals. After an excellent first half, Henrik Signell’s team controlled the game and defeated Hungary 28–23.

Both teams came out with high intensity in Rotterdam’s Ahoy Arena. The defenses set the tone early, with plenty of physical battles that kept the referees busy throughout the match.

Following an even opening period, the Dutch side managed to break away midway through the first half. Dione Housheer took charge offensively, while Yara Ten Holte delivered key stops in goal.

With the arena boiling, the Netherlands carried a five-goal lead, 14–9, into halftime. The second half followed a similar pattern, filled with tough duels and several two-minute suspensions.

Hungary fought hard but struggled to find rhythm against a very aggressive Dutch defense. Despite a tighter second half, the hosts never lost control and booked their first semifinal appearance since 2019.

Up next is the toughest possible opponent: Norway. Signell’s team will once again have massive support in Rotterdam, and with the crowd behind them, perhaps they can dream of an upset.
