Denmark had big problems against Serbia in the WC premiere. But in Sunday’s meeting with Chile, the Danes won with a crushing 46–11 and now the team is ready for a place in the Main Round.
Serbia had a good start to the championship when they played evenly against one of the early favorites Denmark. But despite a fine performance, it was a narrow loss against the Danes and that discharge was clearly felt in Sunday’s meeting with Romania.
The Romanians went on the knock straight away and were finally able to win 37–28, which means they top the group – ahead of Denmark, who defeated Chile 46–11. The victories also mean that Romania and Denmark have now secured their places in the Main Round.
Norway storms on
Norway also did what was required and secured the group victory. This in the tricky meeting with Henrik Signell’s South Korea, which had difficulty keeping up with Norway’s strong physique. This led to the Norwegians being able to run away and win with a comfortable 33–23 and thus secure the group victory in Group C.
Spain were pitted against Brazil in a clean sweep of Group G. It was also as evenly matched as could have been hoped for, but after Brazil trailed 25-24 in the closing stages, Spain responded with three straight goals to secure victory – both in the match and in the group.
In the same group, Ukraine also took the third and final place in the Main Round after the 37–24 victory against Kazakhstan.
In Sweden’s group, Croatia took an impressive victory with a whopping 39-13 (!) against China, which means that they are in first place in the group ahead of the meeting with Sweden on Tuesday evening.
