Romania might be an outsider for the WC medals. Exactly what the powerful, international experienced characters can achieve will be evident within a few weeks time. For now, Romania started their campaign with 44–19 against Chile.
On Great Union Day, a public holiday in Romania, the national team took a speedy route to two points. Chile won a few duels in the beginning, but the shots was rejected by Diana-Cristiana Ciuca for three minutes leading to 3–0.
In the opposite end of the pitch Chile were a bit slow in finding defensive positions. Romania implemented a tactic with a lot of running and scored ten goals in ten minutes.
Same tune prevailed for the remainder of first half. Chile seemed somewhat rushed in offensive mode and Romania followed through in fast breaks for 25–6.
Neagu missing in opening game
Cristina Neagu was missing in the opening game, more of a factual reminder of Romanias obstacles further on in the tournament than an important factor for the 60 minutes at hand.
Second half was considerably slower, Romania held a high freqency in substitutions and had 14 different contributors in the score sheet. The centre back Eliza Buceschi became top scorer with six goals.
Next up for the winning team, Serbia on Sunday in Herning.
