On May 26, 2004 Herbert Müller started his stint with the Austrian women national team. Almost 20 years later the committed coach has decided to leave the team in agreement with the federation, ÖHB.
Austria played five World Championships and three European Championships under Müller´s lead, reaching 10th spot multiple times as the best achievement.
– We made this decision together with a heavy heart, but with Herbert Müller we came to the conclusion that a new impulse is needed in the national team. We would like to express our thanks to Herbert Müller for his almost 20 years of commitment to Austrian women’s handball and wish him every success for the future, says ÖHB president Markus Plazer in a press communication.
Müller was in charge for 236 international matches in total. His successor will be announced in the beginning of February, according to the federation. The imminent task concerns getting the team in shape for the European Championship on home ground in december.
– I have reached this decision, at the same time I am proud and grateful for the past two decades and everything we have achieved together. I wish the team and the ÖHB every success for the upcoming tasks and the home euro 2024, says Müller.
The 61-year-old is still on job for Thüringer HC, where his assignment started in 2010.
