The 2024 European Championship is getting closer, and in a series of articles Ola Selby, reporter at GoHandball, picks his 5 best players at each position. Next up? The right backs.
Here are the players:
Dione Housheer, Netherlands
Moved to Györi ahead of this year’s season and that says most about the class Housheer possesses. Can still fluctuate quite a bit in performance during a match, but when the right back is at her best, there are few in the world who are better than her.
Katrin Klujber, Hungary
Is there a more notorious scorer from the back court than Katrin Klujber? Perhaps it is Henny Reistad, but the Norwegian is so much more than a goalscorer. Klujber is above all a goalscorer, even if she didn’t score goals at will during the fall for FTC. Will be mega important for her Hungary during the EC.
Ana Gros, Slovenia
Is not the player she was a few years ago, but Ana Gros is still high class, which she shows not least in the Champions League. Can still score from the locker room and also draws a lot of coverage. Not as strong as before, but on her day she can easily score ten goals against any team.
Andjela Janjusevic, Serbia
The least known name on this list, but a player who has earned a place here after the incredibly fine autumn season she performed. Janjusevic is sixth in the scoring league in the Champions League after scoring 47 goals in eight games for his Rapid Bucharest. Is it time for the 29-year-old to have a really good championship for a Serbia that is in desperate need of success? That’s the feeling.
Laura Flippes, France
A player who rarely gets the big headlines, but who defines what it is to be stable. Rarely makes big mistakes and is also a good defensive player. Also good at finding the right wing and the pivot. A perfect player for the French team.
