Official: Léna Grandveau joins Metz

The rumor was true. The world’s best young player of 2023, Léna Grandveau, has signed with Metz Handball.
– She is a player we have been interested in for many years, says Thierry Weizman, president of Metz Handball, in a press release.

At just 21 years old, Léna Grandveau has a resume that few players her age can match: an Olympic silver medal, a World Championship gold medal, and being named the world’s best young player by the IHF in 2023.

Now, due to Neptunes de Nantes’ financial troubles, the center back has signed with the French champions and giants, Metz.

– I am very happy to sign with Metz Handball, and very proud because I consider it to be the best club in France. It is the club where one works the hardest, where the demands are the highest, and where the performances are top-notch, says the player herself.

The contract is for one year, and at Metz, she will become teammates with French national team players such as Chloé Valentini, Lucie Granier, Sarah Bouktit, and Laura Flippes.

– As soon as the sad news about Nantes came, I felt it was entirely right for a club like Metz to be interested in Léna and consider recruiting her. It’s done, and it is a huge pleasure for me and for us that we have finally managed to secure her, says the team’s coach Emmanuel Mayonnade.
