CSM Bucharest makes personnel changes – Vasile and Varzaru out

CSM Bucharest and the head coach, Adrian ”Adi” Vasile part ways with immediate effect. The decision by the Champions League club also means Cristina Varzaru will step down from the general manager role.

Bucharest once more portrays elite sport as a result driven business. The loss against Odense HB in the weekend international game might have been the last straw for the current coach with CSM accepting defeat for he fourth time in six rounds.

Despite an all win season so far in the domestic competitions and an early triumph in the Romanian Super Cup, Vasile´s term is ended by club management.

”The decision was adopted following a joint analysis of the results recorded in the current competitive season. While the team has progressed domestically in line with the established objectives, being undefeated, the course in the EHF Champions League has not fully reflected the club’s expectation”, Bucharest writes in a short communication.

Vasile worked his way up to head coach in the capital side and started a five-year-stint in October 2019. He resumed duty once again before 2025/26 as Helle Thomsen´s successor.

While Bucharest’s recruitment process starts with two vacant position, the previous assistant coach Iulia Curea has been appointed in an interim capacity.
