IHF has awarded Mathias Gidsel and Henny Reistad the title as world player of the year. In 2024, the nordic duo from Denmark (Fuchse Berlin) and Norway (Team Esbjerg) respectively had an outstanding level in the eyes of fans, national team coaches and the IHF commisision involved in the voting.
Both Gidsel and Reistad enjoys repeated success when IHF announces the prestigious winners. The danish back court star shone in the Olympics, having previously brought Denmark to Silver in the European Championship.
Since 2018, it’s been an all-Danish affair for the men’s prize and Gidsel´s triumphs in 2023 and 2024 follow upon Niklas Landin and Mikkel Hansen on top of the podium.
Reistad´s ambitious year was crowned with ever better form in the Paris tournament. She also made it into the all star-team in Euro 2024 and scored most of all in Champions League.
The 26-year-old is awarded for the second year in a row, Sandra Toft (2021) being the previous winner in the category.
IHF also presents Renars Uscins and Petra Simon as young players of the year.
