Egypt secures historic victory at Wheelchair Handball World Championship

Two years after settling for silver, Egypt triumphed at the IHF Wheelchair Handball World Championship, defeating the USA 2:0 (6:1, 12:6) in a commanding final to secure a world title.

In 2022, Egypt fell just short of the championship on home soil, losing a dramatic shoot-out to Brazil. This time, determined to make amends, Egypt entered the final with newfound ambition, facing a strong USA team on a four-match winning streak. Egypt quickly took control, with top scorer Magdy Talaat Abdo Abbas leading the charge. USA struggled to convert their chances, allowing Egypt to win the first set 6:1.

The second set saw Egypt continue their dominance, as Abbas extended their lead with key spin shots, ultimately finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with 72 points. Egypt sealed the second set 12:6, earning their maiden world title. The USA, making their championship debut, settled for silver, while Brazil secured bronze in a competition that highlighted the rapid growth of wheelchair handball.
