Report: IFK Kristianstad in talks with Jim Gottfridsson

Swedish powerhouse IFK Kristianstad has made contact with Jim Gottfridsson regarding a potential move, according to Kristianstadsbladet. The Swedish international is currently without a club after leaving Hungarian side Pick Szeged earlier this summer.

One of Sweden’s biggest clubs could be lining up one of the country’s biggest stars.

According to Kristianstadsbladet, IFK Kristianstad has been in contact with Jim Gottfridsson about a possible transfer ahead of the new season. The club’s newly appointed head coach, Björn Sätherström, confirmed to the newspaper that discussions have taken place.

“Jim and I have a relationship from our time together with the national team. We’ll see where it leads,” Sätherström told Kristianstadsbladet.

At the same time, the coach acknowledged that IFK Kristianstad cannot compete financially with the salaries offered by top Bundesliga clubs. Still, he described it as both exciting and flattering that the club is part of the conversation.

Kristianstad official Mats Samuelsson also told Kristianstadsbladet that if the club strengthens its squad further, the priority is to add an experienced player. With the club set to compete in the EHF Champions League, additional depth and leadership are considered important.

Gottfridsson became a free agent after his contract with Pick Szeged expired. The 33-year-old playmaker, widely regarded as one of the world’s best in his position over the past decade, has yet to announce where he will continue his career. A return to Sweden would be one of the biggest domestic transfers in recent years, although no agreement has been reported at this stage.
