Barcelona are reportedly set to strengthen their backcourt with Montpellier and Brazil star Bryan Monte. The 23-year-old could join the Catalan giants in the summer of 2027.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have reached an agreement with Hugo Bryan Monte over a three-year contract running until 2030. The transfer is not yet official, however, with the Brazilian currently under contract with Montpellier until 2029.
Barcelona are reportedly prepared to pay a transfer fee to bring Monte to Spain in July 2027. The exact amount has not been disclosed, but Mundo Deportivo describes the fee as manageable for the Spanish champions.
The 23-year-old left back joined Montpellier from Brazilian side Pinheiros in 2023 and has since established himself at the highest level. The 1.94-metre Brazilian international has also featured prominently for Montpellier in the EHF Champions League.
Monte would be Barcelona’s second major addition to the backcourt for 2027, following the reported agreement with young right back Marcos Fis. The club is preparing for the departure of Dika Mem, while also planning for the longer-term succession of Tim N’Guessan.
Monte already has some memorable history against Barcelona. In March 2024, he scored 11 goals as Montpellier defeated Barça 37-34 at the Palau Blaugrana. More recently, he scored three goals when the teams met again in Montpellier in the Champions League, with Barcelona winning 28-27.
