The 2025 Men’s World Championship is getting closer and in a series of articles Ola Selby, reporter at GoHandball, picks his 5 best players at each position. Next up: Here are the pivots.
Here are the players:
Ludovic Fabregas, France
In almost any other era, Ludovic Fabregas would have been by far the best pivot. Now he is not and it is due to a certain Dane, but Fabregas is ridiculously good. Has no weaknesses in his game and despite having already won more or less everything, he has not lost any of his quality.
Magnus Saugstrup, Denmark
Here we have the Dane I just mentioned. Named MVP in the Bundesliga last season and it says a lot when a pivot wins that award, which is really not common. Just like Fabregas, this is a complete handball player. Imagine that Denmark won Olympic gold despite Saugstrup missing several matches…
Johannes Golla, Germany
A monster. Probably the strongest player in this group and a big reason for Germany’s awakening in the past year with fourth place at the European Championships and Olympic silver at that. Like the two men already mentioned, Golla has no weaknesses in his game.
Kamil Syprzak, Poland
Here we are talking about an quality offensive player. Probably the sharpest offensive player of the five pivots on this list. But unlike his colleagues, Syprzak is not as sharp in defense. Up front, however, there are no weaknesses – Syprzak is third in the Champions League’s scoring league.
Lukas Jørgensen, Denmark
Was named the best pivot during the last Olympics and perhaps not many people thought that would happen before the Olympics started. Has continued to be really good for his Flensburg during the autumn, and just think that Denmark has both Saugstrup and Jørgensen at pivot, probably for several years to come.
