He doesn’t have the height, he doesn’t have the weight, he doesn’t have the width but he is one hell of a handball player. How? Gohandball Went straight to the source for an answer.
Simon Pytlick’s rise to the very top of handball players in the world amazes in many ways. One is the out-of-the-blue effect since not many had even heard of him before making wonders in the EHF Champions League and for the Danish National Team. Another is the fysical attributes compared to the attacking style of play.
So how does he do it? Gohandball spoke to the 23-year old about how to prepare for the individual game:
– Sometimes you are preparing yourself a little bit more than other games but I have some routines that I am doing and I believe in myself and the game plan. But of course you need to be prepared because otherwise you will be killed.
It may sound like a harsh effect on playing handball but nevertheless Pytlick has to find his way to keep feet on, not under, the ground.
– For me it is important to be a little bit smaller because I play fast. And of course I can also shoot from distance which is one of my powers.
And of course, he learned from the master himself.
– I practice really much and I also have a master in Mikkel Hansen who I have looked at a lot. I have studied his way to shoot a lot because I am not that tall so I need to shoot a bit more with my wrist. So I have to shoot around the blocks and be a little more clever because I am not that strong.
