Iceland head coach Snorri Steinn Guðjónsson has named a 20-man squad for the opening matches of the EHF EURO 2028 qualifiers. Viggó Kristjánsson is included despite an injury setback but will miss the first game through suspension.
Iceland will begin their qualifying campaign for the 2028 European Championship with home and away matches against Ukraine and Estonia in November. Head coach Snorri Steinn Guðjónsson has selected 20 players for the two fixtures, with most of his key players available. However, Þorsteinn Leó Gunnarsson remains sidelined through injury.
Viggó Kristjánsson has been named in the squad but is suspended for the home match against Ukraine following his red card in the bronze-medal match against Croatia at the 2026 European Championship. Elliði Snær Viðarsson will be available against Ukraine but will miss the subsequent match against Estonia for personal reasons.
Jón Bjarni Ólafsson of FH has therefore been included to provide additional cover at the line position.
Iceland will host Ukraine on 4 November before travelling to face Estonia on 8 November. Serbia are the fourth team in the group. The top two teams in each qualifying group will secure direct qualification for the tournament, while the best-ranked third-placed teams will also qualify.
