Robert Weber announces end of national team play

With 990 goals and a career spanning over 20 years in the national jersey there is a special place in the history book of Austria for Robert Weber. But everything must come to an end, the 38-year-old announces his retirement via the federation website.

Weber took part in every championship which Austria participated in for almost one and a half decade. In retrospect, his 29 goals and inclusion in the All Star Team of Euro 2024 was a suitable farewell.

– It was a long and very nice time, says Weber according to the federation website

– I look back on a crazy 20 years for the red-white-red with one eye laughing and one crying! Here’s to many happy, exciting and successful moments, he continues in social media.

On club level Weber is an equally big icon – more than 2 500 Bundesliga goals plus cup and international titles speaks for itself.

— Robert has shaped the right wing position in the national team for over two decades. Robert always wore the team jersey with pride and always left his heart for Austria on the field. His name has helped shape the last 20 years. An era is coming to an end, says the federation sports director Patrick Fölser.
