Reigning champions on top of EHF ranking

After Norway´s Euro 2024 triumph and Denmark’s gold winning quest in the World Cup the bar has been set. The respective nations also leads EHF´s latest ranking of national teams.

Besides pointing out the current hierarchy, the ranking based on results over four years gives a hint of the distance between each step on the success ladder.

In the men’s ranking, Denmark can count to 112 points, chased by France on 105 and a larger gap to Germany (82).

Norway has participated in all four major finals since 2022 and won three titles. This leads to the women’s dominant on a secure first spot (116 points) while France (103) and Denmark (102) battle it out much more close for the other podium positions.

EHF also provides an explanation for the points calculated:

”For each gender, the EHF four-year national team ranking adds the results from the last two European and the last two World Championships. A win is worth 160 points, second place is 144, third 128, fourth 120, etc.

To give the more recent results a bigger impact on the current rankings, the points earned at the two oldest events count for only 50 per cent, and the points from the two newest events (for men: the EHF EURO 2024 and the 2025 IHF World Championship; for women: the 2023 IHF World Championship and the EHF EURO 2024) count for 100 per cent. The total number of points for each nation is then divided by four”, writes eurohandball.com.
