For several seasons, Magnus Abelvik Rød has been troubled by injuries. As a result the Norwegian back court player has decided to opt out of the Olympics later this year.
The latest setback for the creative tight back occurred during Euro 2024. A foot injury affects Abelvik Rød´s spring season and also the upcoming championship.
The Norwegian Handball federation brings the 26-year-old´s choice to leave the national team selection – for now.
– It hasn´t been an easy decision, but I’m not ready to fight for a place in the olympic squad considering my injury. Both for me and the national team it will be beneficiary for me to take a break from the national team, says Abelvik Rød to handball.no.
A comeback for the club team Kolstad HB during the playoffs might happen for Abelvik Rød if the rehabilitation process goes according to plan. Next season he will join Pick Szeged in another CL adventure – and keep close contact with countrymen.
– My decision is absolutely not a no thanks to Norway indefinitely, he says to the federation website.
