Jonas Wille no longer coach for Norway

After five championships in charge of Norway, Jonas Wille will leave the position as head coach of the men’s national team. The decision by the federation board means that his contract ends in the summer.

The tenth position in Euro 2026 last month was widely regarded as a disappointment for Norway. With two other recent results just within top ten (Euro 2024 and WC 2025) the was no ground for an extension in the view of the deciding party.

– Jonas Wille has been an important part of the Norwegian Handball Association for many years, also from the time before he took over as national team manager for the men’s national team.

– We are grateful for his development focus, commitment and persistent efforts through five championships for Norway. We are committed to building on the good development work he has been an exponent of for many years, says handball president Randi Gustad to the federation website.

For Wille, it means accepting a decision he rather not seen happening.

– I would have really liked to have continued. I have been clear about that. I would still continue with the work with the A-national team and the processes we have started with talent development. Four years is quite short in terms of development, he says in an interview with VG.

The process of finding Wille´s successor will soon get underway.
