The Faroe Islands and Luxembourg could be in line to host an EHF EURO for the first time in 2034, after both federations expressed an interest in staging the European championship.
The two nations are among 11 national federations that have submitted letters of interest to the European Handball Federation ahead of the formal bidding process for the 2034 tournaments. While the Faroe Islands have expressed an interest in hosting the Women’s EHF EURO 2034, Luxembourg is interested in both the men’s and women’s championships. Neither federation has previously hosted an EHF EURO, making their potential involvement particularly notable.
The Faroe Islands have become an increasingly prominent force in European handball in recent years, while Luxembourg has continued to develop its handball infrastructure and national teams.
The list of interested federations is otherwise made up of several countries with previous experience of hosting major EHF events. Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden and Türkiye have all expressed interest in the men’s tournament, while Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden have also registered interest in the women’s event. Luxembourg is the only federation outside that group interested in both tournaments.
The Men’s EHF EURO 2034 is scheduled for 10–29 January, while the Women’s EHF EURO will take place from 28 November to 17 December.
The interested federations now have until 1 March 2027 to submit their official bids. The bids will then be evaluated before the hosts are selected at the EHF Congress in Ljubljana on 18 September 2027.
