Thomas Arnoldsen avoided the worst case scenario as his injury situation has become clear. A fractured shin and up to three months out of handball still puts an end to his hope of making it to Euro 2026.
Gohandball previously reported of the hard hit for Arnoldsen during a Champions League game with Aalborg HB. The backcourt star had to be helped off the court and abandoned the game with obvious pain in his left knee.
Further examination, described by the club webpage shows that he did suffer a fracture.
– Thomas has undergone scans and examinations from our medical staff today, which have revealed that he has suffered a fracture to his shin. Fortunately, the fracture is stable and does not require surgery, Aalborg Handball team manager Martin Larsen says to the club webpage.
The prognosis means that Aalborg can expect Arnoldsen in up to twelve weeks, effectively a few weeks after the national team break.
But the end of January and beginning of February will be spent in recovery mode, not playing the European Championship.
Nikolaj Jacobsen, head coach of Denmark confirms Arnoldsen´s fate for Ritzau News Agency.
– It’s really sad, especially the way Thomas has played this year. Hopefully Thomas would have stepped in and had a big role in the national team, Jacobsen says.
