The EHF Court of Appeal has partially amended the ruling in the case involving the Croatian Handball Federation and Matej Mandić following an incident at the Men’s EHF EURO 2026 medal ceremony.
The EHF Court of Appeal has partially amended the decision previously issued by the EHF Court of Handball concerning the Croatian Handball Federation and Croatian goalkeeper Matej Mandić.
The case relates to the medal ceremony at the Men’s EHF EURO 2026, where Mandić displayed a flag that was not included in the EHF Flag Protocol and was therefore not authorised under the applicable regulations and medal ceremony procedures.
The Croatian Handball Federation appealed the original decision, but the appeal has now been rejected. The €10,000 fine imposed on the federation has been confirmed, with €2,500 of that amount suspended for a probationary period of two years.
However, the EHF Court of Appeal also partially accepted an appeal lodged by the EHF itself. As a result, Mandić has been handed an additional €2,500 fine for violating the official EHF medal ceremony rundown and the EHF Flag Protocol.
The appeal fees paid by both appellants will be credited to the EHF in accordance with the EHF Legal Regulations.
Both the Croatian Handball Federation and Mandić have the possibility to take the case further by filing a recourse with the European Handball Court of Arbitration (ECA) within 21 days.
