Confirmed: Møllgaard joins Denmark men as assistant coach

Former Denmark international Henrik Møllgaard has been appointed assistant coach of the Danish men’s national team, stepping in for Henrik Kronborg, who recently decided to step down.

Møllgaard will take up the role on 1 September 2026, signing a deal running until 31 August 2028, while continuing his duties as assistant coach at Paris Saint-Germain Handball.

“I’ve gained an incredible amount of energy from the national team throughout my career, and it has always been a huge source of inspiration for me,” said Møllgaard in a press statement. “Especially in recent years, when I took on more of a leadership role during the generational transition, I really felt what a special and constantly evolving environment this is.”

A strong voice on the bench

Head coach Nikolaj Jacobsen is also pleased to welcome Møllgaard into the setup and believes he has the potential for a strong coaching career.

“I’m very happy that Henrik Møllgaard has accepted the role. He’s a great fit for the team and closer to the players in terms of age. He’s also highly respected by both myself and the squad,” Jacobsen said.

“We’ll benefit greatly from his experience from numerous internationals and major tournaments. I’m pleased he has chosen the coaching path – he has always had clear opinions on how the game should be played. I’m looking forward to helping him get started on what I hope will be a long and successful coaching career.”

Møllgaard made 230 appearances for Denmark, winning two Olympic gold medals and four World Championship titles.
