3 takes after France–Denmark: “Tired Denmark, Fabregas MVP & no bullshit”

A tired Denmark, Ludovic Fabregas = MVP & no bullshit. Here are Ola Selby’s 3 takes after France defeated Denmark 33–31 and became champions of the 2024 European Championship.

Tired Denmark

Nicolaj Jacobsen has hardly rested Simon Pytlick, Mathias Gidsel, or Magnus Saugstrup during the Euros. I certainly don’t claim that these players were terrible in the final, Mathias Gidsel hardly made any errors during 70 minutes, but when it was crunch time it was obvious that France was the fitter team.

Denmark had 9 (!) more saves than France in this game and yet it was this even. In other words: France was a lot better than Denmark.

But the future looks bright for Denmark:

Emil Nielsen: 26 years old.
Mathias Gidsel: 24 years old.
Simon Pytlick: 23 years old.
Magnus Saugstrup: 27 years old.

And to add to that: players like Thomas Arnoldsen (22 years old), and Mads Hoxer (23 years old) are looking to make the mark in upcoming tournaments.

Elohim Prandi again…but Fabregas is the MVP

Dika Mem had a tough game. It took 65 minutes until the superstar scored his first goal (then he scored 2 goals in extra time). But the match winner was Elohim Prandi. He played great defense against Gidsel in the last minute of the game and he secured the win for France in extra time.

But MVP is not Dika Mem, Nedim Remili, or Elohim Prandi. My MVP is Ludovic Fabregas. Amazing in defense and 8 goals in the final during 63 minutes of playing. A giant among men!

France took home the women’s gold a month ago and the men’s gold now without having as great goalkeepers as their rivals. Will they score the double again in Paris this summer?

No bullshit – focus on handball

Considering everything that has happened during this Euros it was nice to watch a game where the sport itself got the spotlight and nothing else.

No refereeing scandals, no delegate scandals, and no other bullshit. Simply beautiful handball that closed out an amazing tournament in Germany.
