Martim Costa suffers knee scare against Melsungen

Martim Costa picked up a knock to his knee as Sporting CP suffered a 28–26 defeat to MT Melsungen in the final of a pre-season tournament in Doboj, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Portuguese champions faced a tough test against Melsungen, who are preparing for the new Bundesliga season after a successful training camp in Bosnia. Sporting were unable to claim the tournament title, with the German side eventually securing a two-goal victory.

However, the result was overshadowed by an injury concern surrounding Martim Costa. The Sporting star was forced to deal with a knock to his knee during the game. The extent of the injury is not yet known, leaving Sporting supporters hoping that it is nothing serious.

It would be particularly heartbreaking to see Costa suffer a significant injury at this stage of his career. The 23-year-old is entering what is expected to be his final season with Sporting, at least for now, before making the move to Germany alongside his brother Francisco Costa. The Costa brothers were recently officially announced as new SG Flensburg-Handewitt players, with both set to join the German club in the summer of 2027.
