HC Zagreb will be without Jovica Nikolic for their next two EHF Champions League matches after the EHF Court of Handball handed the Serbian player a suspension for serious unsportsmanlike conduct.
The European Handball Federation (EHF) has suspended HC Zagreb player Jovica Nikolic for two matches following an incident in the club’s Champions League encounter with Aalborg Håndbold on 14 October.
Nikolic was shown a direct red card in the 45th minute of the match. After reviewing the incident, the EHF Court of Handball ruled that his action was particularly severe and extremely dangerous. The disciplinary body subsequently decided to suspend the player from participation in EHF club competitions for two matches.
As a result, Nikolic will miss Zagreb’s upcoming Champions League fixtures against Paris Saint-Germain on 21 October and RK Celje Pivovarna Laško on 28 October.
The decision can be appealed to the EHF Court of Appeal within seven days.
