Pick Szeged became an unstoppable whirlwind during the handball evening in Paris. Paris Saint-Germain dropped the ball while the Hungarian guests ran away to 35-25 and an overall nine-goal triumph.
Szeged was set up for a superb 60 minutes on away ground. Roland Mikler between the posts was brilliant and made sure Szeged could pull away soon enough. PSG´s small advantage, plus one from the first match didn’t matter in the long run while Mario Sostaric filled Szeged goal quota with fast-run action.
PSG changed goalkeeper without luck and couldn’t keep up. Kamil Syprzak worked hard in the attacking game but a single threat was no good for the French champion.
– We are very happy. I have to say this. I think it was our day. It was the day of my team. I think our performance was really, really good. But we knew before the match that if we played tonight perfectly, then we can win, and we did it, so I’m so proud, said Mikler to eurohandball.com in the post-game interview.
The dominating win sent Pick Szeged to an even tougher quarter-final versus Barca to complete the schedule for the next round:
Aalborg HB–Fuchse Berlin
Sporting CP–HBC Nantes
Barca–Pick Szeged
Veszprem KC–SC Magdeburg
