CL: Füchse Berlin ran away from Aalborg

Füchse Berlin first executed a comeback to catch up with Aalborg HB after the first half. Then the guests broke down towards the end and allowed Mathias Gidsel to effectively put FBerlin in the next round via 37–29.

Berlin versus Aalborg had some great quarterfinal action. But Aalborg only managed one half of top level handball. Niklas Landin had a dominant role as long as the outfield players could keep the momentum.

The attacking issues for Füchse were solved when the magician, Gidsel started his creative mission in the second half.

Berlin had 27–24 with 15 minutes remaining and were determined to make a difference. Tim Freihöfer joined in with nine goals to Gidsel´s eleven while Aalborg dropped the ball and fell behind due to too many mistakes, four missed penalties among them.

– We won a quarter-final with eight goals. What can I say? We are really happy.

– We missed a lot of shots in the first half. But how we recovered from this deficit, I am really proud of my team. The atmosphere and energy came back. In the second half, we played more like we want to play our game, with fast ball movement in the attack and the counter attack, said Berlin´s coach Jaron Siewert to eurohandball.com.
