Hungary made history at the Men’s 20 EHF EURO 2026, winning their first-ever gold medal in the competition after defeating Sweden 34–32 after extra time in the final.
The final was closely contested from the start, with neither side able to build a significant advantage. Hungary’s aggressive defence limited Sweden’s attacking rhythm, while both goalkeepers produced several important saves throughout the match.
Sweden led 28–27 with one minute remaining in regulation, but Hungary equalised to force extra time. In the additional period, Hungary proved the stronger side and sealed the historic victory.
The victory marks Hungary’s first Men’s U20 EHF EURO gold medal, adding another major achievement to a generation that also claimed bronze at the Men’s 18 EHF EURO 2024.
