Magdeburg seems to be nearly unstoppable at the moment, and they have set their sights on both the Champions League and Bundesliga trophies. However, they are also looking ahead to next season and have identified their next pivot in Tim Zechel.
Last Sunday, Magdeburg defeated Füchse Berlin in the Bundesliga title fight, and in Europe, they have secured first place in the group stages by defeating both Veszprém and Barcelona. Amidst all these games, they have begun building their team for next season, with Tim Zechel being their first new signing.
The 27-year-old pivot began his career in the Magdeburg youth academy before playing 192 Bundesliga games for Hannover-Burgwedel (2016-2017), TUSEM Essen (2017-2021), and, since 2021, HC Erlangen.
– For me, it’s a bit like coming home, as I lived in the Magdeburg boarding school from the age of 15 to 17 and wore the SCM jersey. Therefore, it is very special for me to be able to play for the best club in the world for me as a professional, says Zechel on the club’s website.
Bennet Weigert, Magdeburgs head coach, said the following on the club’s website about their new signing.
– He knows the city, knows the club, so for him and me, this move closes a circle, and it shows, as it has been with Philipp Weber, that we never lose sight of our young players. Together with Magnus and Oscar, Tim will form a strong pivot trio for the new season.
