Viktor Gísli Hallgrímsson to join Gummersbach in 2027?

According to sources close to Handkastið, German Bundesliga side VfL Gummersbach are interested in signing Icelandic national team goalkeeper Viktor Gísli Hallgrímsson once his contract with FC Barcelona expires in the summer of 2027.

Hallgrímsson joined Barcelona ahead of the current season, signing a two-year deal with the Spanish giants. Since arriving in Catalonia, he has been competing with Emil Nielsen for playing time. However, Nielsen is set to leave Barcelona this summer to join Hungarian powerhouse Veszprém, a move that could significantly impact the goalkeeper situation at the club.

The goalkeeper market in Germany is expected to see major movement this summer. Gummersbach’s current first-choice keeper, Dominik Kuzmanović, will join SC Magdeburg. At the same time, Magdeburg’s Sergey Hernández is heading in the opposite direction – he will sign for Barcelona and become Hallgrímsson’s new teammate.

Hallgrímsson joins Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson?

Spanish goalkeeper Ignacio Biosca has been linked with a move to Gummersbach as a potential replacement for Kuzmanović. Biosca currently plays for French side HBC Nantes.

With several high-profile transfers unfolding across Europe, the goalkeeping carousel could eventually open the door for Hallgrímsson to reunite with Icelandic head coach Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson at Gummersbach in the future.
