THW Kiel and the French goalkeeper Vincent Gérard have reached an agreement on an immediate contract termination. The 37-year-old Olympic champion, world and European champion joined the THW Kiel in the summer but due to a prolonged injury sustained during training camp, he did not play any official matches for the Kiel.
Vincent Gérard moved to THW Kiel to play in Bundesliga. However Gérard did not play a competitive game for THW Kiel due to a long-term injury sustained during the training camp. THW Managing Director Viktor Szilagyi regrets the turn of events that made it impossible for Gérard to settle in at THW Kiel:
– We all had different expectations. In our initial plans, Vincent played an important role as an experienced goalkeeper. However, after weeks of uncertainty, it became clear that Vincent’s injury could only be addressed through surgery followed by months of rehabilitation, says Viktor Szilagyi to the club’s website.
The subsequent signing of Samir Bellahcene, which became necessary, created a completely new situation, Viktor Szilagyi continued:
– We then decided to continue into the new season with Tomas Mrkva and Samir Bellahcene. We communicated this openly and honestly with Vincent throughout. Both sides therefore concluded that an immediate contract termination is the best solution. It’s a real shame that we couldn’t realize our plans together. We wish Vincent all the best for his future.
– I came to Kiel with big goals and hopes. Unfortunately, my injury slowed me down, and I couldn’t help the team in the first part of the season. I wish the team all the best and will continue to cheer for THW Kiel, says Vincent Gérard to the club’s website.
