Three coaches in 30 Years: THW Kiel extend Filip Jícha’s reign

THW Kiel and head coach Filip Jícha have agreed to extend their partnership. The club announced today that the coach’s contract – initially due to expire this summer – has been extended by a further two years.

Club CEO Viktor Szilágyi praised Jícha’s dedication and impact in a press release: “Filip works with meticulousness and passion around the clock for THW Kiel. He lives for this club, and with his mindset and qualities he’s exactly the man we need. I’m pleased we now have planning security and can continue our successful work for the club together.”

Szilágyi added that the head-coach role is crucial for the team’s development, and that the club took the time to reflect on the present and future together.

“Happy to continue the process”

Jícha commented: “We had long, intensive talks about the sporting direction, the further development of our young squad and the future of THW Kiel. That’s why I’m happy to continue the process we began two or three years ago.”

He added: “It’s great fun working with this team. I wear the black-and-white in my heart, and I’m fired up for the task of shaping the new THW Kiel—to compete again for the championship and the Champions League. I’m glad that both our current players — and those who will join — now have clarity that we are going forward together.”

The extension continues an extraordinary era of stability at THW Kiel — the club has had just three head coaches in more than three decades: Noka Serdarušić, Alfred Gíslason, and now Filip Jícha.
