Erik Persson has gone from strength to strength during his time in Göppingen. In the meeting with Flensburg, he stepped forward and decided by making it 32-31 on a set up free throw when time ran out.
After a few good years in Eskilstuna Guif, Erik Persson took the step to Göppingen this summer. He has been an important piece there during the autumn, but the biggest highlight of the season so far came on Saturday night.
In the home meeting with Flensburg, the right nine answered for six goals – but it is the last one that will last the longest.
With the score 31–31, Göppingen got a free throw, while time was ticking down. Persson just stepped forward and with his left-handed sledgehammer he was able to decide, whereupon wild scenes of joy erupted.
In Flensburg the danish left winger, Emil Jakobsen, were prominent with eleven goals – but it was not enough for Nicolej Krickau’s team.
Despite the fine autumn in the Bundesliga, Persson has not been given the chance in Glenn Solberg’s national team. In fact, he was not even included in the gross squad for the upcoming European Championship finals in Germany.
