MT Melsungen secure former Berlin title-winning coach Jaron Siewert

MT Melsungen have found their next head coach. The Bundesliga club announced that Jaron Siewert will take over as head coach from the start of the 2027/28 season, signing a contract that runs until June 2030.

The appointment comes after current coach Roberto García Parrondo informed the club earlier this year that he intends to pursue a new challenge when his contract expires in 2027. The Spaniard recently guided Melsungen to the first major trophy in club history, winning the EHF European League after beating THW Kiel in the final.

Siewert arrives with an impressive résumé despite being only 32 years old. During his time with Füchse Berlin, he led the club to the first German championship in its history in 2025 and also lifted the EHF European League trophy in 2023.

His spell in Berlin came to an unexpected end last autumn when he was relieved of his duties, shortly after suffering the second stroke of his life. The first occurred in 2022. According to Melsungen, however, Siewert has fully recovered and is ready to return to handball.

The German coach will not wait until 2027 to begin working with his new club. Starting next season, he will serve in an advisory role focused on scouting, squad planning, youth development and club partnerships before officially taking over as head coach a year later.

Melsungen’s management highlighted Siewert’s track record of developing young players as a key reason behind the appointment.

“We want to continue building for the future and developing young talent. Jaron has shown that he can identify, develop and integrate young players into a Bundesliga team while also managing experienced professionals,” sporting director Jesper Larsson said in the club’s announcement.

For Siewert, the move represents an opportunity to join one of Germany’s most ambitious projects.

“MT Melsungen is a club with high ambitions and exciting goals. The challenge is incredibly appealing, and I want to help shape the club’s future and contribute to further success,” he said.
