Momir Ilic new coach in Wetzlar

HSG Wetzlar has identified its coach for two seasons to come. Momir Ilic returns to Bundesliga, this time in a trainer position.

– It is an honour for me that the people in charge at HSG Wetzlar have put their trust in me, he says to the club webpage.

The announcement of Frank Carstens departure set a few rumours in spin. Handball-Planet earlier wrote about the possibility of Ilic taking over the top flight team and the club confirmation arrived soon after.

Ilic´s career in German teams started in VfL Gummersbach between 2006 and 2009, subsequently the left back star moved to THW Kiel (2009-13). Upon arriving in Veszprem, he laid the foundation for coaching assignment with the U21 and CL team of the elite club.

– Momir has incredible experience as a player and is eager to prove his skills as a coach in the Bundesliga. We are happy that we were able to win him over despite other offers, including from the Bundesliga, says HSG managing director Björn Seipp to the club website.
