Magdeburg slightly ahead of Flensburg

SC Magdeburg got back in the game in Bundesliga and got the better of SG Flensburg-Handewitt to 29–27. Magdeburg´s fourth win in the season could well be the start of a climb to the top.

THW Kiel sent Magdebug down to the mid-region in a September duel. Full pace and strength from many CL and club WC games took the club back to the elite region and made F lens burg suffer their first defeat of the season.

Magdeburg had the best goalkeeper in the first half and Sergey Hernández stood behind the solid start. Omar Ingi Magnusson made no mistake in all the (five) penalties that the teammates gained and Philipp Weber put a lot of efforts into his breakthroughs.

Flensburg was four behind at half-time, despite Emil Jakobsen´s toothsome shots. Through Simon Pytlick increased the frequency in the goal scoring Magdeburg held to the lead by three or four goals as the second half got going.

Soon after, the home team managed to step up in defense and allow Benjamin Buric to catch several shots. Flensburg caught up, 22 all when the pivot Lukas Jørgensen delivered in both directions. The pressure was on as Magdeburg gave a lot of minutes to their key players, the attacks succeed and Magnusson continued to score on penalties.

Flensburg sabotaged their chances with technical errors and Magdeburg could smell the victory with Magnus Saugstrup´s contribution, 27–24 with five minutes to go. Flensburg had to enter desperate mode but remained one step behind and Magdeburg repeated last years triumph in Campushalle
