SG Flensburg-Handewitt has already lost four games in the Bundesliga and currently sits in sixth place. After the loss against Rhein-Neckar Löwen earlier this week, the season and the club have decided to sack Danish head coach Nicolej Krickau.
Krickau signed for Flensurg in the summer of 2023 after a few successful years in GOG. In his first season as head coach at Flensburg, the Dane delivered some great results, winning the EHF European League and finishing third in the Bundesliga.
But this season, Flensburg has already lost four games in the Bundesliga, and after the latest loss against Rhein-Neckar Löwen, the club has decided to sack Krickau.
– We discussed our situation in detail with the committee and weighed up the pros and cons. It was not an easy decision, and one that we ultimately made with a heavy heart,” says SG managing director Holger Glandorf in a press release.
– First of all, we would like to thank Nicolej for his work, his commitment, and his enthusiasm for SG Flensburg-Handewitt over the last 1.5 years.
Sporting Director Ljubomir Vranjes, who coached the team to the EHF Champions League title back in 2014, will take over the reins as coach in a pair with assistant coach and player legend Anders Eggert.
– This is an interim solution. We want to find a successor for Nicolej as quickly as possible.
