In the middle of 2023/24 Kay Smits was forced to take a break from active handball because of an heart injury. After rehab and continuous check-ups the dutch international has resumed training with his teammates in SG Flensburg-Handewitt.
Smits left the squad in December to recover, the diagnosis myocarditis was communicated from the club soon after.
Euro 2024 and few months of league games and international match-ups has passed. But the calendar facts matter not a bit when Flensburg presents the return of the 27-year-old in promising shape.
– I am very satisfied with the way my rehab is going. I feel very good and am just happy to be back with the team and able to train. I’ve been waiting for this for a very long time, says Smits to the club webpage.
Flensburgs announcement also advises that Smits will progress slowly but surely in close contact with the medical team of the club.
– We are very happy to have Kay back with the team. With his motivation, his will to improve and his quality, his return will immediately have a positive impact on our everyday training routine, says the coach Nicolej Krickau to the club webpage.
