Füchse Berlin trophy twist: “I can hardly believe it – the shield is back”

Füchse Berlin’s stolen Bundesliga trophy has been dramatically recovered inside the club’s own headquarters. According to HandNews, the bizarre case took an unexpected turn, later confirmed by the club itself, when the missing title shield was found hidden in the basement months after the theft.

The trophy disappeared in November 2025 following a break-in at the club offices, just a few months after Berlin secured their first-ever German championship. As reported by HandNews, the incident sparked wild speculation, with fears the trophy had been melted down, while two suspects were arrested in January.

However, as the club revealed on its official website, the “Meisterschale” was ultimately discovered during an internal search in the cellar, concealed behind boxes. Investigators now believe the thieves never removed it from the building, instead hiding it with plans to retrieve it later.

“I can hardly believe it, but the shield is back,” said managing director Bob Hanning on the club’s website. “We can all be happy that the tradition is preserved.”

The find, reportedly made in February but kept quiet during the investigation, allowed the Bundesliga to cancel a replacement trophy just in time, according to HandNews. Police have since secured the original as evidence, with its return pending the conclusion of the case.

What began as a potential sporting scandal has instead ended as one of handball’s strangest stories, equal parts embarrassing and remarkable for the German champions.
