Füchse Berlin will not sign a direct replacement for Lasse Andersson before the new season. CEO Bob Hanning instead believes Matthes Langhoff can fill the gap left by the Danish left back.
Füchse Berlin have decided against returning to the transfer market for a direct replacement for Lasse Andersson, who left the club this summer. Speaking at a team presentation in Berlin, Füchse CEO Bob Hanning made the club’s position clear.
“We won’t sign anyone. Not because we couldn’t.”
Hanning explained that Berlin would only make another signing if a player became available who could genuinely improve the squad. The club does not want to make a transfer simply for the sake of adding another player.
Instead, the Bundesliga side will put its faith in Matthes Langhoff, who is expected to take on a more prominent role at left back.
“I think it is also a little disrespectful, because we have Matthes Langhoff on that position, and I trust him 100 percent to close the gap left by Lasse,” Hanning said.
The 23-year-old Langhoff has already been identified by the club as one of the players who could take on increased responsibility during the upcoming season.
Door remains open
Although Berlin currently have no plans to sign another left back, Hanning did leave the door open for a future addition.
Should new head coach Nicolej Krickau decide that the squad needs another player who can make an immediate impact, the club would be prepared to act.
However, Hanning was clear that Füchse will not overpay for a player simply because the market offers options.
“If Nicolej Krickau comes and says: ‘I want a player. We now have the player who will help us in that moment’ – then we will make the contract tomorrow,” Hanning said.
