Talant Dujshebaev has spent decades at the very highest level of European handball. His verdict on the Bundesliga is therefore difficult to dismiss. – It’s like the NBA, but for handball, the legend says according to Handnews.
The France national team head coach was in Germany to watch his sons Alex and Daniel face each other as Gummersbach took on Melsungen. Afterwards, Dujshebaev was on German television asked about the experience of seeing both of his sons playing in Germany’s top division.
His response quickly turned into a broader assessment of the Bundesliga.
“I’m very happy that they can play in the best league in the world,” Dujshebaev said, according to Handnews.
“It’s like the NBA, but for handball.”
For the former Soviet Union and Spain international, simply reaching the Bundesliga represents an important milestone for a player. Dujshebaev knows that better than most. His playing career included spells in Germany with Nettelstedt-Lübbecke and Minden, before he went on to become one of the most decorated figures in European handball both as a player and a coach.
That experience is also why he believes young players should seriously consider Germany as they develop their careers.
“I always say that I was extremely lucky in my life. I myself played in the best league in the world,” he said.
“And I tell many young players that later on they should try to come and play in Germany, in the Bundesliga. To be honest, it’s really another world.”
