Domen Makuc will leave FC Barcelona next summer and join THW Kiel on a four-year deal.
For weeks, rumors have been swirling in the handball world that THW Kiel had set their sights on FC Barcelona’s Slovenian player Domen Makuc. Those reports have now been confirmed.
The move was officially announced during Kiel’s season-opening press conference on August 20, 2025. The 25-year-old signed a four-year contract until June, 2030, and is expected to become an integral part of Kiel in the coming years.
– Right now, I am playing for FC Barcelona, and from next year on, it will be Kiel. Both are world-class clubs with great tradition and deep respect for one another. Moving to THW Kiel will be the next big step in my career. I want to prove myself in the strongest league in the world, and Kiel is the perfect place for that. There, I will not only find a top team, but also a fantastic atmosphere in the Wunderino Arena. Being cheered on at every home game by thousands of handball-crazy fans is something truly special, said Domen Makuc.
